Re: old fashioned hand operated water pump

There are two types of the “old fashion pump” out there. One is called a pitcher pump.
It is good down to about 22-25 feet, depending on your altitude.

The other is a deep well hand pump.

There are a lot more sources out there. Google away.

Do a search for Bison Pumps in Maine. They manufacturer some real nice hand pumps, both shallow well and deep well. Not cheap but I expect they will last a long time.

Harbor Freight Tools sells one, probably for shallow wells. This message board posts links to their sale items and discount coupons every week.

A few more details of the pump and the piping/holding tank situation would be great. Without details, I would say a pressure or level switch  that sends power to an electric motor hooked up to some type of linkage attached to the pump handle....unless some vandal took the handle...

Re: old fashioned hand operated water pump

Maybe not old fashioned, but simple pump also makes a hand or automatic well pump for deep or shallow wells.  I installed one on a shallow well and have been pleased with its performance.  Last I heard they were working on a 24v gear motor.  I have the 12v gear motor and am quite impressed with how slow pumping is so efficient.
