Mandatory not Alternative Energy

We keep hearing the talk about change, and needless to say we all remain skeptical. I will define change for you  this way. We are no longer pursuing alternative energy, we are pursuing “Mandatory Energy”.  Our economy, national security, health, and yes even environment are demanding change.

The energy and automobile industries have far too much influence to be ignored.  They have a responsibility to their stockholders to try and be as profitable as possible, our capitalistic system requires it.  It is not their responsibility to determine the best direction for our country, that is supposed to be the responsibility of the politicians, and more importantly ourselves. The pursuit of profits is determining the direction our nation pursues… again: pursuit of profits is determining the direction our nation pursues.  When you look in the mirror, think about that, do you want that to be your legacy?

When you watch a commercial from one of the big petroleum companies talking about all that they are doing in alternative energy, why do you think they are playing that commercial?  They are playing it because they know it's good publicity and makes you look at them in a positive light. When you view them this way you are more likely to spend money on their products and services. Yes, they are pursuing those alternatives, but that is exactly what they are, alternatives.  Those are part of the business plan for them to be successful years and years down the line.  At the same time, they are lobbying, spending enormous amounts of money, playing dirty, and doing everything they need to to remain as profitable as they can… that's what they get paid to do. I know, I know, deep inside many of us are aware of this but we just believe there's nothing we can do… this is how you change it.

First, understand that change and truth are very much the same.  They're both inevitable and uncomfortable. “All truth passes through three stages, first it is ridiculed, second violently opposed, third accepted as being self-evident”… Arthur Shopenhauer. Think of that  as you remember the following…the Wright brothers airplane, a man on the moon, the pyramids, cloning, a compressed air engine, an economy based on renewable energy. We Americans talk about accountability, ingenuity, responsibility, and work ethic… it's time to Walk the Walk, Cowboy Up, Git’er Done. People need to start talking about what could be done and what the possibilities are instead of why it won't work…. Tell me what's wrong with that Mr. Limbaugh?!

Solar thermal and wind energy are somewhere in between being ridiculed and  vitally opposed , we need to reach self evident very fast.  The environmental reasons for this are now accepted by something like 60 to 70% of the population, this is good but not enough.  We need to focus on economic reasons. The combination of the rise in petroleum prices, increased energy demand, the world economy make this mandatory.  The nations that lead the world in renewable energy technology will be able to compete economically and ultimately win economically over those with most of the natural resources like Russia, the Mideast, and Venezuela. Remember that renewable energy  does not required the purchase or production of natural resources once the plants are in place.

This means that over the long term the cost of producing energy decreases rather than increased due to inflation. Billions of people in third world countries will be using electricity within 10 years, these are people who don’t currently have electricity. How would we like them to produce their electricity?  Where would we like them to buy the equipment to produce the electricity?  Will the United States of America be a leader in the next worldwide revolution… the green energy revolution?

Re: Mandatory not Alternative Energy

I here you brother! But I believe that its not just energy. Thats just the candles on the birthday cake so to speak.

From the beginnings of the human race on Earth (whenever you believe that to be) up to the 1900's (several thousand years no matter what you believe) world human population has been estimated to have been at 2 billion people.
From the 1900's up to present day 2009 (109 years) that estimate is now at 6.8 billion people.

Thousands of years to reach 2 billion people.
The last 100 years and 4.8 billion more people.

Put it all in a big pot, boil it down and this fact is what will be left clinging to the inside of the pot. This fact is the underlying reason for all of the strife present in today world. So many more people in such a little space of time. We are struggling just to keep are heads above water let alone figure out where we are in the ocean and find land. Its ether sink or swim. Ether way, whatever is left of the human race will provide something for the future. Provided of course, that we don't leave the planet Earth as desolate as the planet Mars. But then, speaking in a relative sense based on terms used for the age of the planet Earth, the human race has been little more than a hiccup.

Pity about Earth.

Re: Mandatory not Alternative Energy

The amazing thing is that we seem to be at two such critical stages.
1) Population growth that is exploding while the use of energy grows exponentially across the world.
2) The Renewable Energy Revolution (wind, solar, wave, tidal, geo-thermal energies) that should have begun 8-12 or more years ago but is now just taking hold. Many don't realize it but the future clearly rests on the millennials (gen-we, 95 million strong, ages 8-30). They are comfortable with the technology, large enough to swing votes in the U S, and passionate enough if they can be unified.

I just wish the stakes weren't so high and the results so uncertain...we all share the responsibility, wish us well

Don't forget about Methane Hydrates on the ocean floor all around the planet Earth. http://www.ornl.gov/info/reporter/no16/methane.htm
Sooner or later there is bound to some wiseacre thats going to claim he can collect it safely without release millions of tons of Methane into our air where it will find its way into the air streams and eventually encompass the Earth.
http://www.ghgonline.org/methanehydrates.htm
Look at it like Prince Williams Sound and the Exxon Vadez. http://www.eoearth.org/article/Exxon_Valdez_oil_spill - Only its not just oil and water and wildlife, its air and every living thing on the planet Earth.

Where did we come from? We all know that if we look hard enough there is a good chance that we will see what we want to see but how do we know what we are not being told? All we know is what we are being told and what we believe. A statue? Trick of light and shadow?

Where we are. http://weblogs.newsday.com/news/local/longisland/politics/blog/earth.jpg
Where we are going?

Think about the simple fact that we can take these pictures.
What makes it all that much harder to believe though is that, there is no record of anyone saying or writting "pity about Mars." All we know is that "In the beginning there was the word and, the word was God." When was the last time the Holy Spirit moved inside of any of you?

Pity about Earth.
